Nan Boland, President

With over 25 years of sales and recruiting experience, Nan brings strong people skills, a positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for the industry to HQS! These strong characteristics have played a significant role in Nan's success with both clients and candidates!  Recently, Nan worked as a Sr. Search Consultant with a Des Moines employment agency with a focus on accounting, finance, and human resources. 

Prior to recruiting, Nan spent 10 years in the insurance field where she worked as Sales Producer with AmerUs and as an Investment Advisor at Nationwide. She held her licenses in Property & Casualty, Life, Accident and Health Insurance, as well as, Series 6 and Series 63 licenses. Nan 

received her degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Go Panthers!  She enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Brian, her family and friends as well as volunteering in the community.  Nan's focus is in the areas of accounting, finance, human resources, banking and office administration.

After growing up in Clarion, Iowa, I went on to attend the University of Iowa.  After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, I taught both kindergarten and first grade for several years.  I have also worked in sales, and have done recruiting for both medical sales and IT positions. 

I enjoy the fast paced environment of the staffing industry and love the personal aspect of my job.  Talking to people comes naturally to me and helping them find a fulfilling career is very rewarding.    There is nothing more exciting than knowing you have made a good match between an employer and candidate.

As a technical recruiter, I'm responsible for identifying, evaluating and ultimately placing information technology professionals who stand out amongst their peers for contract, contract-to-hire, and permanent openings within the Des Moines, IA area. I have been a technical recruiter for 7 years and really enjoy working with clients and  

candidates. I speak with a lot of people every day who are in different phases of their careers. They're looking to grow their career, a contract may be coming to an end or they may have been laid off. Regardless of the reason, my goal is to be there for them and provide avenues to work with them confidentially, and find the best suitable career match. 

In my spare time, I spend time with family and friends. I have lived in Iowa all of my life and the majority of my family are in the area as well so it seems there is always someone stopping by. I also like to get involved in charity events. While attending Iowa State, I joined a team that went door to door requesting donations for the Heart Connection and most recently was involved with a silent Auction for the American Cancer Society. I enjoy biking and running as time permits. I look forward to working with you!

Landing in staffing was truly an accidental career path! Coming into the profession after seeking employment via the placement agency I ultimately worked for five years, I've been able to utilize that unique experience to build not only productive relationships with HQS candidates, but also our clients. It allows me to identify & secure truly viable talent leading to the most appropriately matched placements.    

At HQS, I'm responsible for the placement of administrative & related professionals on a temporary, temporary-to-permanent, and direct-hire basis.  My background includes over seven years of staffing.  Although I've spent the last couple of years working as a nationwide medical recruiter, it's the five years spent as a staffing manager and division director of a Des Moines area placement firm that I draw my most applicable experience from.    

I relocated to Des Moines from Dallas, Texas.  I must say, my first foray into world after college, Iowa wasn't necessarily at the top of my list. But, as a "transplant", it's a state I now call home & love. I truly believe that Iowa is the world's best kept secret, and I'm excited to be staffing in this community again!  I've adopted the Iowa Hawkeyes as my college team, avid fan of biking & RAGBRAI, and the State Fair! I earned my degree in Economics & Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas and worked in the Economic Development field prior to my Iowa move.
